HOSTESSES FOR BUSES
Suggestion To Board A suggestion that the Christchurch Transport Board could employ hostesses at the main bus stops in the Square was put forward by a member of the board, Mr K. T. Marriott, at a board meeting yesterday. He suggested the hostesses could assist elderly persons on and off buses and also assist young mothers with children. Mr Marriott said he felt the idea would encourage patronage by making it easier for some sections of the community to use the buses. One or two hostesses could be employed at first, he said, and more could be employed later if the idea was successful. He moved the matter be considered by a meeting of the works and traffic committee of the board.
Mr H. E. Denton suggested Mr Marriott should be present when the committee discussed the matter. He was “very sceptical” about the idea, he said. The board decided the suggestion should go to the works and traffic committee and Mr Marriott should be present when the committee met.
