North Shore, of Auckland, achieved the first leg of a possible New Zealand soccer ‘double" by beating Technical, of Dunedin. 3-1, in the final of the Rothmans £lOOO tournament at Blandford Park on Saturday North Shore has also qualified for the Chatham Cup final, in which it will meet Nomads, of Christchurch, at Wellington on August 31. Technical displayed a brilliant defence but had little penetration on attack. It did not score until the thirty-fourth minute of the second half, by which time North Shore had scored three goals. North Shore, on the other hand, looked extremely powerful, with the right half. K Armstrong, the centre-half. W Ward, and the goal-keeper. A. Stroud, being in brilliant form Played before the best crowd of the season—4ooo—on a remarkably firm pitch, the game was scrappy and generally disappointing. For North Shore. T McNichol scored two goals and P Oden one. Technical’s goal was by W. Porteous. North Shore led, 2-0. at half-time.
