RELEGATION MATCH

Shirley May Not Challenge Although West Old Girls finished bottom of the senior women's hockey competition they may not have to withstand a promotion-relegation match to stay in the grade next year. It is not known yet if Shirley, the winner of the senior reserve grade, will apply for such a match. The senior reserve grade concluded on Saturday after a very close and interesting competition in which the first and fourth teams were separated by one two points. Before Saturday, three teams —Shirley. Bumside and Teachers' College, the 1962 winner—were level with 10 points each, followed by Digbys with BJ. These four teams met in the final round Shirley assured itself of being at least first equal by beating Teachers' College convincingly. 2-0. and was then assisted by Digbys drawing with Shirley's last threat. Burnside. 2-all. The four leading positions in the competition were thus:— Shirley 11. Bumside 10}. Teachers' College 10. and Digbys 9 However. Shirley may not apply for a match against West Old Girls. Both the club and the team are young and if many left before next year replacements could be hard to find. But the 1963 Shirley team is a fine one and has several players who could grace the senior grade.
