Two Canterbury Nominees Although it is not yet definite that, arrangements can be made for Queen’s Scouts to go to the Antarctic during the coming season, as in the last two years, two scouts have been chosen as the Canterbury area’s nominees for final selection if the trip eventuates. The Canterbury Scout Commissioner 1 (Mr C. W. Hamann) announced yesterday that in accordance with the motto of being prepared Gary Hopkinson, of Greymouth, and Gregor Coster, of Fendalton, have been selected as the nominees Both scouts are studying for university entrance. Gary Hopkinson intends to become an architect and Gregor Coster, who is a pupil at Christchurch Boys’ High School, intends to be a scientist. -- In making the selection. Mr Hamann was assisted by Mr F. T. Bell, the treasurer, and Mr F. M. Rogers, the assistant Canterbury commissioner, Venturer Scouts Mr Hamann said the standard of all candidates put forward by their district commissioners was very high and any one of them would well have merited a trip. It was most encouraging to those giving their time to scouting to know that their efforts were so worthwhile. Final selection will be in Wellington. early in September, when candidates of all areas, together with new Queen's Scouts, will be received by the Dominion Chief Scout, the GovernorGeneral (Sir Bernard Fergusson) at Government House.
