Supreme Court RECEIVER GAOLED
Nine-Month Sentence • Arthur William Sparrow, a carpenter, was yesterday sentenced by Mr Justice Wilson in the Supreme Court to nine mon tils' imprisonment for receiving stolen property. Sparrow was found guilty by a jury in the Supreme Court on August 12. Sparrow’s counsel (Mr R. G. Blunt) described him as a man who realised he had weaknesses and had tried to do something about them. He had made a real effort, and should be given credit for this, submited Mr Blunf His Honour said that this was not the first time that Sparrow had been found guilty of receiving. Sparrow had been treated with a great deal of leniency by the 1 courts in the past, and had been admitted to probation > on two quite serious charges. Persons who were willing to receive stolen goods ■offered the inducement to others to steal, said his Honour.
