U.S. Offers Rejected

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) GENEVA, August 15. The Soviet Union rejected two American proposals for reducing the nuclear weapons race at the Disarmament Conference yesterday. The United States delegate (Mr Charles Stelle) disclosed the proposals and said they could be introduced before any disarmament agreement was reached. The United States was prepared to cut its reserves of fissionable material more than the Russians, he said, which would meet Russian fears that an equal transfer of fissionable material to peaceful purposes by both sides would be inequitable.

Mr Stelle indicated that the offer was linked with a halt in production of fissionable material useable in nuclear weapons.
