Priorities Not Fixed Tar-sealing may be completed along national highway 8 to Pukaki by the end of next year, but plans beyond that are not yet completed, the resident engineer of the Ministry of Works Timaru (Mr E. R. L. O'Toole) says in a letter to the secretary of the Mount Cook National Park Board (Mr W M. Ollivieri. “It is difficult to forecast the programme of sealing to Pukaki and later to the Hermitage, as it is not known at this stage what future funds the National Roads Board will be allocating for this work." Mr O’Toole says. "As far as I am able to tell you. an effort is being made to get the sealing completed to Pukaki by the end of next year. Beyond that I have no information as to whether the sealing will be carried on to Ohau or towards the Hermitage. This is a policy matter which has not been decided.”
