A Word From The President
The Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association presents the 1963 New Zealand Industries Fair to the public of Canterbury. In this comprehensive display New Zea-
land manufacturers exhibit not only a range c of their products but processes by which a high-quality standard is achieved. The basic needs of man are for food, clothing and shelter. Civilised man with his rising standard of living demands an increasing sophistication in the satisfaction of these basic needs. In addition technological advances have brought within his reach additional utilities such as refrigerators, television sets and transport facilities. The underlying purpose of manufacturing is to satisfy the demands for all such goods and under the economic circumstances of New Zealand today, without the efforts of New Zealand manufacturers much of the demand for these goods and services would remain unsatisfied. To this end last year New Zealanders produced in their own factories some £BO6 million worth of goods which is the largest single factor in the internal economy of the country.
I am sure that the public will find in the various exhibits much that is new and much that demonstrates the increasing ability of New Zealanders to produce goods that will stand comparison with the world’s best. R. G. PEARCE, President, Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association.
