COLLECTION OF RUBBISH
Complaints At System
Complaints are being made about the Lyttelton Borough Council’s new method of rubbish collection.
On Wednesday evening, rubbish tins were emptied in the doorways of two businesses both owned by members of the council. Under the former system rubbish collections took four days and a half in one week. Residents are now required to put all their rubbish in a
standard-size tin to be placed on the edge of the kerb no later than 7.30 a.m on the day of collection. Business premises are allowed to put two tins out. Hotels and restaurants find the restriction a problem. The council says that some boroughs bigger than Lyttelton can collect all their rubbish in one day.
