TELEPRINTER SERVICE

City Firms Seek Connexions

Office-to-office teleprinter communication for commercial and civil organisations in New Zealand will be possible next year. Called Telex, short for teleprinter exchange, the new service will be fully automatic. Subscribers will be able to dial all other subscribers in the country, and will be able to link with overseas networks. The Chief Postmaster in Christchurch (Mr C. J. C. Simpson) said that although the service would not operate before the middle of next year 17 applications for connexion had already been received from Christchurch firms, and many others were interested.

Mr Simpson said annual rental for a teleprinter would be £l6O with a meter charge of 3d for every 10 seconds of calling time in New Zealand, regardless of distance There would be an installation fee of £ 10. He said rates would vary for international calls.
