Mr Nehru told Parliament today that there was no question of India considering the internationalisation or division of the Kashmir valley with Pakistan. He added India was still anxious for a settlement with Pakistan.
India and Pakistan have disputed the sovereignty of the State of Kashmir since their partition 18 years ago.
Alter the Chinese-Indian border fighting died last winter, Pakistan and India had several meetings to try to reach a solution.
Mr Nehru said concessions which India offered to Pakistan “are no longer open and they must be treated as withdrawn.’’
Mr Nehru said last May that India was prepared to accept “the good offices of some respectable person’’ in seeking an end to the dispute. The Prime Minister added that “there is little possibility of a settlement so long as Pakistan persists in its irrational animus against India.”
