QUALITY OF TV PROGRAMMES

Support For Criticism The president of the Canterbury Televiewers’ Association (Mr J. F. Abbett) fully agrees with Mr B. Zeff's remarks printed yesterday, that too high a proportion of television programmes were related to violence. Mr Zeil criticised the programmes at a meeting of the Burnside High School board of governors. “Our purely voluntary organisation is conducting a pane] survey into all aspects of programmes for submission to the Minister responsible." said Mr Abbett in a letter to the editor of “The Press " “We would be pleased to welcome the views of Mr Zeff and all other responsible persons for perusal by out committee which will present them to the general meeting in October Could I state in all fairness that after returning from a trip to the United Kingdom and Europe I consider our programmes do compare favourably, but there is still room for vast improvement,” he said.
