SEQUEL TO TORSO II

Art Purchase Advisers (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 5. After a discussion lasting more than an hour, the parks and library committee of the Auckland City Council unanimously decided to recommend’ the appointment of Mr J. Stacpoole as a member of the committee that will help advise on purchases for the art gallery.

As a result of the controversy over the purchase of Miss Barbara Hepworrh's bronze sculpture, Torso 11, the committee decided to set up again a committee to advise the director of the gallery, Mr P. A. Tomory, in recommending the purchase of major works of art. Mr Stacpoole is a former chairman of Art Gallery Associates and a member of its selection committee. He has agreed to serve with Mr G Rix-Trott, chairman of the Mackelvie Trust, in an advisory capacity.
