FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT

Situation.—A cold front, which is moving eastwards across northern areas of the South Island, is followed by a westerly airstream covering most of the Tasman Sea. Forecast:—

Canterbury.—Light to moderate variable winds; fine, with frosts; moderate day temperatures. Marlborough and Nelson.—Moderate winds from a westerly quarter, strong at times in exposed northern areas and about Cook Strait; a few isolated showers this morning about the Sounds and western ranges of Nelson, otherwise fine; moderate temperatures.

Buller and Westland.—Moderate fresh north to north-west winds; cloudy and showery, with a period of heavier rain likely late in the day; temperatures cool.
