Naval Decorations For Officers’ Club Ball
Flags, lifebuoys, portholes and bunting contributed the naval theme chosen for the decorations at the CanterburyOfficers’ Club’s annual ball held at the Winter Garden last evening. In the ballroom back-drops simulated maritime scenes, and alcoves were named after naval vessels.
In the foyer was a striking arrangement of yellow, white and brown dried flowers, with arum lilies. Supper tables were attractively decorated with pink camellias placed on taffeta. Specially-invited guests included the club's patron. Group Captain J. D. Robins, and Mrs Robins; Brigadier T. C. Campbell, officer commanding Southern Military District, and Mrs Campbell; Commander R. M. T. O’Connor, R.N.Z.N.V.R., commanding officer of H.M.N.Z.S. Pegasus. and Mrs O'Connor; and Lieutenant-Commander P. Rendelson, United States Navy. Guests were welcomed by the vice-president of the club. Flight Lieutenant R. C. Dunn, who deputised for the president, Lieutenant-Commander W. Harris,
Mrs Robins wore a gown of nylon organza, in shades of bl-ie. It was designed with a draped bodice, and fullness to the back of the skirt.
A sheath styled gown of royal blue brocade was chosen by Mrs Campbell Mrs O'Connor's gown was a clove carnation moire taffeta, with a fitting bodice. The skirt featured an apronfront finished with a bow at the back. Mrs Dunn chose blue silk chiffon over taffeta for her gown, which was styled with a slim-fronted skirt falling into deep folds at the back. It had rouleau shoulder straps.
More than 430 persons attended the ball.
