III-Health Blamed For Bankruptcy

Thomas George Watts, aged 49. a workman, told a meeting of his creditors that he had no prospect of paying his debts of £758 until he was released in December from prison, where he was serving a sentence for forgery.

Watts, married, with 10 children aged from six months to 10 years, was adjuged bankrupt on his own petition on July 18. In his statement to the Official Assignee <Mr O. T. Grattan) "Watts said that illhealth was the main reason for his bankruptcy. He had diabetes and heart trouble, and had been able -to work for only two months in the last five years. He was on an invalid's pension of £8 15s a week which, with the family benefit, was the only income for the family. His debts had been £l5OO, but he had used the £9OO compensation for an accident in 1958 to reduce them to the present figure. Furniture was his only asset. The meeting was adjourned sine die.
