C.A.A. COLLEGE COURSE
Third To Begin On Monday
A third course will begin on Monday at the Civil Aviation Administration and Meteorological Service Aeronautical College at Christchurch airport. It will be for specialised radar training and will be attended by three persons.
At present two courses are being held at the college. These deal with meteorology and air traffic control.
A second building provided by the Christchurch City Council's airport committee has recently been placed in position at the college, but this need® considerable renovation Tenders for this work have been called, and it is hoped the building will be ready for use by September. Two of the five instructors who will occupy the building when it is ready have arrived at the college. They will teach telecommunications.
A third building has yet to be placed on the site, but this is not expected until the end of the year. This building at present houses the regional radio telecommunications workshops, and the college will have to wait until it has been vacated. When the college was opened in April the Minister of Civil Aviation (Mr McAlpine) said the complete three-stage development plan for the college was not expected to be in Operation until early next year.
OU Drilling Equipment.— Nearly 500 tons of oil drilling equipment worth £lOO,OOO will be unloaded at Auckland from the Cap Castillo on August 8 for the New Zealand Petroleum Exploration Company, which hopes to begin drilling this year in areas on which it has already done seismic surveys in the Waikato.—(P.A.)
