RESIGNATION SOUGHT
Council Slates Mr Yaldwin (AZ Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 29. The resignation of Mr J. B Yaldwin. chairman of the Local Government Commission. was called for by ’he Manurewa Borough Council tonight The council decided that Mr Yaldwin was mainly responsible for the intense feelings of resentment among boroughs involved in the commission’s scheme for a South Auckland city The mover. Cr. M Hendry. gave the following reasons for the resolution:— "(1) That at the commission's hearing hose present felt Mr Yaldwln’s dictatorial attitude had stopped the commission in its main object—to get all information possible to help it reach a correct and logical decision “(2) That after advising all boroughs to keep silent he made numerous press statements regarding the city and its name. “(3) That Mr Yaldwin wrote to Sir Winston Churchill without autho: tv for his consent to use his name “(4) When taxed with this by the press, he said the people would soon get used to the idea and showed a high-handed attitude.”
