Cycling DELEGATES NOT AGREED
Controversy Over Games' Event
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. July 23. Delegates to a meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association tonight showed mixed reactions to a decision to concentrate on the 100-kiio-metres teams’ race at the Tokyo Olympics. Southland. Otago. Waikato. Wellington and West CoastNorth Island had written expressing their support while Canterbury has already staged trial races
However. the Auckland Centre, which speaks for the majority of New Zealand's top Toad riders, is against the scheme and has written to the council in protest.
Auckland claims that the road riders' efforts in Perth are still fresh in the selectors' minds and there would be more chance of getting two or three riders selected for the 120-miie road race than five for the teams’ event.
Following a request from Canterbury that it be permitted to hold an official trial, the council decided to ask the centre to conduct a South Island trial.
