REMAND FOR WILDER

Appearance In Packed Court (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 24. Handcuffed to a constable, George Wilder, aged 25, appeared in the Auckland Magistrate’s Crurt today on two charges involving escaping from prison. He was remanded until August 7. The Courtroom was packed. More than 70 members of the public saw Wilder make his short appearance before Mr F. McCarthy, S.M. Wilder is charged that on or about January 29 at Auckland he did by violence break out of a penal institution with intent to set himself at liberty. He pleaded not guilty and elected to be dealt with in the Magistrate’s Court. Wilder elected trial by jury on a charge of escaping from lawful custody at Auckland Prison on January 29. Earlier, Patrick Wiwarena, aged 26, a workman, pleaded guilty to escaping from lawful custody in Auckland Prison on June 18.

Mr McCarthy remanded Wiwarena until July 31.
