SLASHED TO DEATH
Girl’s Body In Lane (N.ZP.A. -Reuter— Copyright) LONDON. July 23. The police are searching south-west England today for tihe killer erf a Ifl-year-old girl who was found late last night hacked to death in a country lane in Somerset. Police said she had been killed by 20 to 30 blows from a machete-type jungle knife. With Barbara Herron, who w’as killed. was Joan McNulty, aged 18. who is now in hospital, alive but with severe knife wounds.
Miss McNulty told police they had been picked up by three men in a car while hitch-hiking from Liverpool.
Five miles from Weston-super-Mare. Somerset, the car had turned off the main, road into a lane in which Miss Herron was later found dead. Miss Herron was attacked when she got out of the car. Miss McNulty, covered in' blood, staggered to a nearby farmhouse after also being attacked. Police said she had cuts on her head and right arm. The two girls had been on a “po£> pilgrimage” to Weston-super-Mare to hear a vocal group. The Beatles.
