EMPIRE GAMES IN CITY

Sporting Bodies “Enthusiastic”

Christchurch sporting bodies were tremendously enthusiastic about moves being made by the Canterbury Progress League to have either the 1970 or 1974 Empire Games held in Chrirtchurch, said the retiring president of the league (Mr B. J. Drake) at the league’s annual meeting last evening. However, there were a number of difficulties, he said.

"There is hardly a single sport in this city with adequate facilities for the games —even our Centennial Pool is not suitable.” said Mr Drake. "But whether we succeed or not, my own personal view is that if we can do anything to improve our sporting facilities, the project will be well worth while,” he said.
