AMERICAN SOIL CONSERVATION

Christchurch Man To Study Work Watershed control methods in the United States will be studied by Mr D. R. Wilkie, who will leave for San Francisco for a two-month visit on August 16. Mr Wilkie is the district soil conservator of the Department of Agriculture, Christchurch. In the United States he will inspect projects in Oregon, Utah, Ohio, Washington, Tennessee Valley, Colorado, and California. Mr Wilkie has been working on watershed control methods in Marlborough,

South Canterbury, and Canterbury, and has been in charge, from its inception, of the Glenmark catchment scheme, which has proved an outstanding success in North Canterbury. Similar schemes in the United States, which have reached a more advanced stage, will be studied by Mr Wilkie. Major conservation works will also be visited and he will study the techniques and administration of the Soil Conservation Service in the United States.
