Blood Donors Not Accepted

(N.Z Press Association) DUNEDIN, July 24, More than one-third of the 130 people in West Otago who offered their services as blood donors were not accepted because they had suffered hepatitis. Mr C. Facer, director of the Dunedin Hospital blood transfusion service, said today the hepatitis cases might still carry the virus in their blood, and it could be transferred when transfusions were given to people “But after seven years, the blood can be used and will be most acceptable. After this period, any traces of the virus have left the blood,” Mr Facer said.

There was a heavy outbreak of hepatitis in West Otago some time ago, Mr Facer said..
