LAW MOOTS FINAL

The final of the University of Canterbury Law Students’ Society’s moots was held on Friday in the Supreme Court before Mr Justice Maearthur. The judges’ cup for mooting was won by Mr A. P. C. Tipping who also received a prize of books given by a Christchurch firm.

A moot is a legal argument based on agreed facts. The subject of this moot concerned the rights of the deserted spouse left in the matrimonial home as against a purchaser of the property “It is a very practical and important topic, and one which could arise in the near future,” said Mr Justice Macarthur during his summing up.
