Postmen’s Dispute
Sir,—The postmen are objecting to delivering soap powder on their normal round. As it is on very rare occasions that free samples such as this are given, one would think that they could manage it, even if they spread it over a few dlays. I see that in Wellington, Where volunteers have delivered the soap powder, the postmen are still objecting. After all, in the old dlays .it was the practice of many firms to have free samples delivered, and delivered they were—right to the dkxxr.—Yours, etc., EN. July .20, 1963.
Sir, —Seeing that at almost a minute’s notice the Chief Postmaster of Wellington could secure the services of 80 employees from other departments, suggests that there is quite a surplus of post office workers. Members of Parliament should look into this and so endeavour to get a reduction in Government expenditure. The attitude of the Postal Officers’ Association is to be deplored. Last year great sympathy was extended to the railway strikers, but presumably none towards its men and women members who are ordered to become pack-horses.—Yours, etc., S. ANN. July 22, 1963.
Sir,—Everybody'S work is always harder than his neighbour’s. The postmen used to deliver mail at the door; but this was too much, so got boxes placed ait the gate Why. not now stop at the end of the street, and make people collect from them, and save cycling or walking? The telephone book weighs over IJlfo. This will be another excuse for a strike. Even the whistle is too heavy to carry.—Yours, ete., DISGUSTED. July 22, 1963.
