Magistrate's Court 21 Days’Gaol, 10 Years’ Cancellation Of Licence
Twenty-one days’ imprisonment, with cancellation of his driver's licence for 10 yews, was imposed on Egans James Davidson, aged 26, a workman when he was convicted by Mr A. P. Blair, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday of driving while unde* the influence of drink or drugs in Wilsons road on July 20. He pleaded guilty. Sergeant B. D. Read said that the police went to an accident at the intersection of Wilsons road and Balfour street at 7.20 p.m. on Saturday. The accused, who had been involved in the accident, was standing in the middle of the road. He was unsteady on his feet and had to be placed in a patrol car to stop his being run over. Davidson was certified by a doctor as unfit the drive, Sergeant Read said. The accused bad a previous conviction for a similar offence. THEFT OF WHEEL • A youth who removed a spare wheel from a parked car at 11.5 p.m. on July 20 was seen by a passing police patrol as he was rolling the tyre along the road, said Sergeant Read The youth, who was granted interirfi suppression of his name, pleaded guilty to a charge of theft of the wheel, valued at £B, the property of Graham Edward Stewart. He was remanded on bail to July 29 for sentence. CHARGE DISMISSED Saying that he had some doubt whether the accused intended to cause an obstruction, the Magistrate dismissed a charge against Colin Charles Strange of obstructing the footpath in-Gloucester street on July 13. Strange, aged 18, a student, pleaded not guilty, and was represented by Mr M. J. Glue. To a charge of failing to comply with the pedestrian control Lights at the intersection of Gloucester and Colombo streets on July 13, strange pleaded guilty, and was fined £3. REMANDED Lester Francis Smith, aged 4#, a traffic sergeant employed by the Christchurch City Council, was remanded on bail until July 29 on a charge of driving while under the influence of drink or drugs in Worcester street on July I*. A further charge, at dan-
gerous driving in Worcester street on the same date, was adjourned to July 29. Charged with driving while unddr the influence of drink or drugs in Yaldhurst road on July 21, John Melvin Mason, aged 45, a storeman, was remanded until July 29. Bail was granted. William John Gilmore, aged 50, was remanded on bail until July 29 o n a charge of driving while under the influence of drink or drugs in Colombo street an July 20. On a charge of driving while under the influence Of drink or drugs in Carmen' road on July 21, Stanley Clifford Johnston, aged 42, was remanded on bail until July 29.
Arthur Norman Delaney, aged 25, was remanded on bail to July 29 an a charge of wilfully damaging a padded wall valued at £l5, the property of the New Zealand Government, on July 20. A man, who was granted interim suppression of his name, was remanded on bail to August 19 on a charge of assault on July 19. Daniel Scannell, aged 31, who elected trial by jury on a charge of committing bigamy on July 12, was remanded on bail to tomorrow for the taking of depositions. William Leslie Campbell, aged 31, a painter and paperhanger, was remanded on bail until August 5 on a charge of assault on a female on May ,11. Campbell is alleged to have assaulted Pamela Dawn Hillier, a policewoman.
