Obituary MRS F. J. WARD
A resident of New Brighton for nearly 50 years, Mrs Frances Jessie Ward died recently. Mrs Ward, who was in her eighty-eighth year, was born in Richmond. Christchurch, in 1876 and was married to the late Mr Frank Ward in 1901. Mrs Ward took an active part in church and local affairs. As. a member of the Beach Church, later renamed St Faith’s, Mrs Ward was one of the early members of the Mothers* Union. She was especially interested in missionary work and became an "associate of Melanesia." Mrs Ward was a member of the St. John Ambulance nursing division tn Christchurch. ana assisted with the conducting of classes for first aid and home nursing in New Brighton. She was also an active worker in the Red Cross movement.
For a long period Mrs Ward was scoutmistress with the New Brighton troop of Girl Peace Scouts as the organisation was then known, and at the request of the Commissioner for Canterbury (Lieutenant Colonel Cossgrove) continued as an examiner for the efficiency badge in ambulance work in 1918. She was also a member of the New Brighton Croquet Club. Mrs Ward is survived by two sons and two daughters.
