PENNANT OFFER ACCEPTED

Champion Clnb To

Be Holder

An offer by “The Press” of a pennant to be awarded to the champion senior club was last night accepted with pleasure by the management committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association. The offer was made to sharpen interest in the senior competition.

The letter from "The Press" suggested the pennant be flown by the holder over its pavilion, as was done with the county championship pennant in England It was also suggested that the holder could fly the pennant at any outside grounds that it might play on. In England, the champion county team takes the banner with it and flies it at al! of its matches. Mr I. A. Baxter moved that the offer be accepted with pleasure and that “The Press” be thanked for its offer. It was also decided that the sports editor of "The Press” be asked to design the pennant Universities Match

A letter was received from the New Zealand Universities Cricket Council requesting a three-day first-class fixture against Canterbury. The letter suggested that, if it was suitable for the Canterbury association, the match be played at Lancaster Park on December 21. 23 and 24, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday. Mr J. C. Saunders said that five pitches were available on the rlaying area at Lancaster Park, but if the match was played on the dates suggested, then Lancaster Park would have three three-day matches in II days—a day between each match. Upon Mr W. A. Hadlee's motion, it was decided to inform the Universities council that the Canterbury association would be glad to play the match on Friday and Saturday. December 20 and 21. and approval to hold the match would be sought from the Victory Park Board. Test Profit But for the test match between New Zealand and England in March, the association wpuld have shown a deficit on the season, reported the treasurer (Mr E. D. Bennett), £l5O more than was budgeted for being taken from the running of the test and £2OO more on the sale of the programmes
