(N.Z. Press Assn.— Copyright) DALLAS (Texas), July 21. R J. Charles, of New Zealand, finished in thirteenbh place in the professional golfens’ championship today with a one-under par 70 for a 72 hole total of 69, 76, 72. 70 —287. He ended eight strokes behind the winner, Jack Nicklaus.

Most of Charles’s trouble was in putting. ‘T guess I must have a putting complex on this course,” Charles said.

Charles said be did not piay very well during the whole tournament.

He was not greatly disappointed since he expected the change in the weajher, the change to American golf bails and other things had made it quite difficult for him. Charles would have had a fine closing round had it not been for the fifteenth hole, where he was two over par. He was in the rough off the tee, then hit,a tree. He threeputted when he finally got on. He two-putted the first hole for a birdie, sank a twofooter for a birdie on the fourth, a ten-footer for another on the sixteenth and a 15-footer for a four on the seventeenth. Charles said the heat handicapped him. “It was too hot to swing the club,” he said. Nicklaus sank a 30ft birdie putt on the fifteenth which broke bis rivals’ spirits, Nicklaus, aged 23, won 13.000 dollars first prize whicn places him second in the money-winning list with a total of more than 75,000 dollars.

Charles collected 1550 dollars.

The British golfer, B, Hunt, won the 72-hole Carroll Sweet Afton tourney with rounds of 69, 69, 64. and 68. His third round 64 broke the course record set by New Zealander Bob Charles by one stroke.
