(New Zealand Press Association)
LEVIN, July 22. In spite of a slippery surface which almost turned hockey into lee hockey, the Australian touring team had an easy win over Horowhenua at Lerin this afternoon with a score of 10-1. In the fifth minute. D Smart scored the first of Australia's 10 goals, after one brilliant save by the Horowhenua goel-keeper. R ■Buckingham.
Smart was the top scorer of the day with five goals. In the first half, the Australians made 15 attacks on the Horowhenua goal but the half-time score was only 4-0.
■Hte single Horbwhenua goal came when the centreforward, K. Palmer, caught the Australian goalie, P‘ Dearing, out of position and had only to slam the ball in.
Rain early in the afternoon rained the surface of • the field but there was no ran during the game. The Australian forwards worked brilliantly and, in spite of the sodden pitch, showed superb trapping and stickwork. x
