STATE HOUSING AREAS

Sale Of Sections j Discussed (N.Z. Press AnociaHon) • WELLINGTON, July 22. Th» sales of sections in State housing areas was discussed by one of the committees considering remits at the National Party conference today,. Proposing that, in all Statedeveloped areas, the Government provide at greater speed at least half the number of sections for private purchase. Mr W. M. Greenaway, of Porirua. said people wanted to own their own homes.

"It gives them greater civic pride and urges them to improve amenities in the area,” he said.

The Minister of Housing (Mr Rae) said in a letter to the committee that a full 50 per cent, of State-developed sections were being made available to private purchasers on a national basis.

"However, it is difficult to sell 50 per cent, in every subdivision,” he said. Mr Rae said Wellington provided a problem in that it was difficult to get enough land for the State housing needed.

The remit was passed and' will be considered by the whole conference tomorrow.
