FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A deep depression lies far to the south of New Zealand and a complex low pressure trough covers the central Tasman Sea and New Zealand. Forecast:— Canterbury.—Moderate variable winds, northwesterlies predominating inland. Some showers in the Alps, elsewhere partly cloudy. A change to moderate south-westerlies, with cooler temperatures and some scattered showers is likely tonight. Outlook: fine .Marlborough and Nelson.—Fresh north-westerlies about the Sounds and light to moderate northerlies elsewhere. Occasional showers about the high country and a few scattered showers elsewhere. Temperatures moderate. Outlook: partly cloudy. Buller and Westland.—Winds moderate and variable, south-wetterlies predominating. Cloudy and showery. Temperatures cool. Outlook: moderate south-westerlies and scattered showers.
