RELIGION IN SCHOOLS
“Difficult Situation Of Many Teachers”
Discussion on the Religious Instruction and Observances Act, 1962, by the New Zealand Council for Christian Education was outlined by the Rev. J. D. Grocott in an address to the Canterbury branch of the council. Mr Grocott, who is chairman of the branch, said the meeting was able to discuss he “d fficult situation" of many Christian teachers who felt that it was their duty to teach religion and at the same time remain loyal to the decision of the New Zealand Educational Institute. which prevented it. The meeting thought that this problem could be solved by careful consideration by the council and the institute, he said.
Mr Grocott was congratulated on his election as president of the council for the 1964-65 year.
