Leopard's Nest

LONDON, July 19.
Nearly 200 men and 30 dogs hunted an animal believed to be a leopard for 14 hours yesterday in London.
The alarm was raised tn Woolwich suburb after a truck driver reported seeing a "leopard” early in the morning. More than 130 policemen reinforced by 40 Royal Army Medical Corps privates from the Royal Herbert Military Hospital nearby were called out.
An ambulance stood by as the hunting party, armed with hockey sticks and pickaxe handles, best through Oxley Woods in East London. One man—s4-year-old Mr Ernest Stacey—arrived for the hunt with a rifle and 12 rounds of ammunition. Superintendent Thomas Haxby, who was in charge, said:
“We don’t want any shooting around here, sir.” After 14 hours of fruitless searching police called the hunt off
A police spokesman said he was satisfied there was no danger, but precautions would be taken.
