Tour Of Duty In East
(N.Z. Preu Association) AUCKLAND, July 9.
The cruiser Royalist’s tour of duty with the South-east Asia Treaty Organisation forces was described by Captain J. O’C. Ross today as “a normal hard-working operational cruise" when the ship returned to Auckland after four months and a half away.
During this time, the Royalist and her 500 officers and men visited most of the major Far East ports. Captain Ross said that at the ports visited the ship’s company was allowed as much shore leave as possible, and, in return for hospitality received, welcomed visitors to the ship. On one occasion in Japan. 17,000 people visited the cruiser in two hours and a half.
