Index—The consumers’ price index was revised in 1955. with the average for.each of the four quarters of 1955 as the base (loan. The index for the first quarter of 1943 was 1219. Indicating a rise of 21.9 per cent, since 19M. To calculate the Increases in the index from January 1. 1955. to the March quarter of 1963 it is first necessary to average the indices for the last quarter of 1954 and the first quarter of 1955 and to convert this average from the old (1949) base to the new (1955) base. From this calculation an increase of 23.4 per cent., or about 21 per cent, per annum, until the March, 1963. quarter, may be deduced.
