More than 455 persons have been killed in traffic accidents during the 102 hours of the Independence Day week-end in the United States—a record for the anniversary.
The toll is likely to exceed the 509 traffic deaitihis of the 1961 four-day July fourth holiday The holiday death count is as follows: Traffic, 515; drowning, 176; boating. 3; planes. 10; fireworks. 1; miscellaneous, 86: total, 791.
