TROTTING Conference Accounts Show Profit Of £2384
An increase of £6150 in levies paid by clubs has been largely responsible for a profit of £2384 shown in the accounts to be presented at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Conference in Wellington tomorrow. The conference showed a loss of £l5ll for the previous year, when levies were lower.
Swabbing expenses, although by no means the largest item of expenditure in the accounts, showed a sharp rise for the 12 months ended May 31. They amounted to £3816, compared with £2411 for the previous year. This increase is probably a result of the increased number of horses swabbed during the period. ' Stipendiary stewards’ fees and expenses amounting to £9624 formed the largest single item of expenditure during the year. Rather surprisingly this total is down on the £10,436 spent during the previous year, probably because of a reduction in the amount of travelling required.
Office salaries and audit fee showed a small increase during the year, amounting to £7262, compared with £7069. while racecourse inspectors’ levy rose to £3999, compared with £3388.
Travelling expenses showed a small decrease, amounting to £3259, compared with £3559. and handicappers' fees and expenses increased to £2613 from £2217. General expenses remained practically unchanged, amounting to £2524. compared with £2511.
Although comparatively
small itemsj appeal costs and inquiries showed marked decreases because of the reduced number of positive swabs returned during the 12 months. Appeal costs amounted to only £32. compared with £525, and inquiries cost £254, compared with £642. Levies on clubs amount-
ing to £32,525 provided most of the income of the conference. The amount for the previous 12 months was £26,375. The conference received £2519 as a proportion of the expenses of administering the amenities fund and the sulky fund. This amount shewed an increase over the previous 12 months, when the amount was £ 1976. Licence fees and administrative charges on insurance premiums amounting to £530 totalled £ll7l, a drop on the previous years total of £1362.
Fees for the registration of horses also decreased, amounting to £lO6B, compared with £1143. Broadcasting fees totalled £lO5B, £22 more than for' the previous year.
Fines imposed during the season amounted to £BB5, a drop on the £1264 for the previous year.
The conference received nothing by way of appeal deposits forfeited or appeal costs recovered. These two items brought in £5OO for the previous 12 months. The conference has cfsh investments amounting to £20.291, compared with £16,225 for the previous year.
During the year the conference paid claims amounting to £548 from the provident fund, which showed a loss of £l6O. Te fund has investments and cash amounting to £10,635. The sulky fund showed a profit during the year amounting to £149, compared with a loss of £147 for the previous year. However, claims outstanding are shown at £Bl9, an amount resulting from several bad race accidents towards the end of the season. Last year the sum of £875 was estimated as the cost of outstanding claims.
