AUCKLAND, July 9. Sailors in the cruiser Royalist, which returned to Auckland from the Far East today, lost some of their souvenirs to the Customs. Customs officers made a double check. The officers and men were given the usual opportantty to declare goods they had bought oversew and then, after the ship was given a clearance, a further check ww made at the gate w the ship’s company left the naval base.
Transistor radios figured prominently among the contraband goods whieh were reported to have been seised. The chief boarding inspector, Mr C. V. O’Connor, tonight .confirmed that a double check had been made of the Royalist, but he could not say how much contraband had been found. “The Navy boys have got an obligation like everyone else,” said Mr O’Connor.
