Driving Tests
Sir, —I recently went up for my over-70 driver’s test, which I passed. I had read the code book issued by the Transport Department beforehand. The Transport Department officer conducting the test asked me questions, the answers of which he said I should know in order to hold a licence. However, afterwards I could not find any of those answers in the Road Code book. Why does the Transport Department issue a book which does not contain all the answers.— Yours, etc., OLD-AGE DRIVER. July 2, 1963. [The District Officer of the Transport Department (Mr D L. Hogan) said: “It is usual for the testing officer to confine his questions to matters covered by the Road Code, though he is entitled in law Ito ask questions on a much wider range of traffic law. The Road Code is a summary of the essential rules of the road, and it would have to be very considerably enlarged to cover all the other traffic laws. I would be pleased to discuss the queswith your correspondent if he would get in touch with me at this office.”]
