Diamond, of Wellington, beat North Shore, of Auckland 1-0. in the first leg of the Rothmans North Island soccer final at Auckland yesterday. The Diamond right-wing. ft. Holmes, scored the only goal of the match six minutes before fulltime. The second leg will be played at Wellington on July 20. and the winner will play either Nomads (Christchurch) or Technical Old Boys (Dunedin), who are meeting in the South Island final. North Shore was continually bustled by the hard-tackling Diamond team, and spent most of the game on defence. But the Shore goal-keeper, A. Stroud, was in brilliant form, and denied Diamond more than one goal. Auckland beat Wellington. 16-2. in the first round of the Junior National Cup for players under 18. Wellington suffered badly when its goal-keeper. D Larkin, was taken to hospital with a back injury. J Houghton (five), D. Yarker <two), B. Hunter (two) and I. Thom neon scored tor Auckland. B McLean and T. Downes goaled tor Wellington. Auckland will play Waikato tn the North Island final at Hamilton on August X
