British European Airways is seeking 200 stewardesses for its new fleet of Trident airliners, which are expected to be operating by December Glamour girls are not wanted—unless they are between 21 and 27, are fluent in at least one foreign language and have catering or nursing experience. The airlines’ spokesman said many thousands of girls will have to be interviewed befor the selection of the 200 could be made. “Glamour girls don’, always make the best stewardesses,’’ he said. These days “vital statistics’’ are primly and diplomatically defined as “a reasonable proportion between height and weight.” The work calls for a high standard of physical fitness. Recruiting centres will be opened in towns throughout Britain. Those selected will spend six weeks at a training school. Although B.E.A. regularly interviews about 500 applicants a month, only one in 20 is finally chosen.
