MAORI AND PAKEHA

Closer Link In Church (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 2. All the pastoral problems of the Maoris would be better handled if there was a closerknit relation in the Church between Maori and pakeha. the Bishop of Wellington (the Rt Rev H W Baines) said in his charge to the Wellington Diocesan Synod this morning He believed all Maori and pakeha were made to be summed up in Christ. "This means, to speak in institutional terms, that positions in our ministry and in our synodical government belong equally to both races. “We must have more Maori priests if a policy of mutual exchange is to be practicable," he said.
