Rugby Competitions ••It is not too late, as Mr Hattersley maintains, to remedy the unfortunate position that some teams find themselves in because of the representative fames clashing with the competitions. “If the round on Saturday July 6, was postponed to August 24. the date of the Mid-Canterbury representative match, or to August 31, the teams would have sorted themselves ourt into likely winners. The representative teams could be chosen from the other teems without seriously affecting the competition and at the same time affording promising players an opportunity of showing their ability. Why otherwage apod an interesting competition for spectators and for players, merely to ■win a less important representative fixture”’’—C
