Cathedral Square

Sir,—With a rapidly increasing population and demand for more buses in the near future, any attempt to improve the lay-out will not be justified as long as it is used as a bus station, for which it is too small. The Square could be a pleasant and restful area for elderly people. It is ideally situated for a shuttle service, as there are eight pointe around it from which buses can run. to suburbs, and the streets are so close motor traffic can bypass it without inconvenience and should not be alloWed to pass through; This change would remove the congestion in Colombo street and the Bank corner. This arrangement has been found quite satisfactory in larger cities with a more complicated layout.—Yours, etc., OBSERVER. July 1, 1963.
