Car Imports
Sir, —If one imports a car under a “no remittance” licemce, a “bonus licence” is to be issued for importation of a similar car. The person who provides the sterling that enables the importing of these two cars gets title to one of them, but hedged about with
restrictions as to no sale within two years and no importation of another ear (evenfor a member ot toe family for business use). The person who buys toe "bonus” car will pay lifit price, in New Zealand currency, arid drive off free, I presume, to sell the car/ import another under “no remittance," or anything his fancy suggests. Is this so?—Yours, etc., O. B. STANFORD. Oaro, June 23, 1963. [The District Collector of Customs (Mr W. G. Lowrie) said: ‘The correspondent’s letter is substantially correct, except that each .member of a family may obtain a no-remittaoce licence for a passenger-type vehicle for personal use but not for business purposes, provided the applicant holds qualifying funds in his or her own name and right”]
