Remanded On 47 Charges
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. July 1, Jordan William Cross, aged 24, a farmhand, was remanded until July 12 when he appeared before Mr A. A. Coates, S.M., in the Magis-
trate’s Court at Auckland today on a total of 47 charges. Cross elected trial by jury on a charge of escaping from Gisborne gaol on May 4, 27 charges of theft, 13 of false pretences, one of forgery, and one of uttering. He pleaded not guilty to a further three charges of theft which did not carry the right of trial and not guilty to a charge of committing a breach of probation.
The amount of money and property involved in the charges totals £ 1564.
Mr A. J. Nixon, who had appeared for Cross at his previous appearance, was granted leave to withdraw from the case.
