AMNESTY IN SPAIN

Freedom For Some (N.Z Press Assn.—Copy right) MADRID. July 2. All prisoners in Spain, including political prisoners who have served at least 20 years, will be freed soon, according to the terms of an amnesty signed by General Franco in Madrid today. The British United Press said other prisoners would have their sentences reduced by up to a half. The amnesty was announced last Thursday but will not be enforced until its publication today in the “Official Bulletin of the State ” The amnesty was announced to celebrate the coronation of Pop« Paul VI. Latest official figures put the number of prisoners in Spanish gaols at 14.920. Unofficial sources said about 900 of them were political prisoners.
