Reduced Take Of Blood
Blood received fay the I North Canterbury Blood Transfusion Service last Month totalled 756 pinta. Blood issued totalled 598 pints. Blood received comprised 206 pints from the mobile unit and 548 pinta from the Blood Bank at the Chrirt* church Hospital. In June. 1962, 295 pints were received by the mobile unit and 536 pints by the Blood Bank. Last month. 32 new donors were enrolled at the mobile unit and 73 at the bank This compares with 82 at the mobile unit and 47 at the bank in June last year. The heaviest issue of blood last month was to the Princess Margaret Hospital, which received 279 pinta. Christchurch Hospital called for 220 pints, and other hospitals for a total of 100 pints. The corresponding figures for June, 1962, were: Christchurch. 262 pinta; Princess Margaret, 205 pinta; others, 138 pints; total, 605 pints. During the first six months of this year, 4915 pinta of blood were received and 594 new donors enrolled a reduction of 164 pinta of blood and 271 new donors compared with the corresponding period last year. Blood issued totalled 3723 ’ pinta during January to i June this year and 3742 pints ■ in the same period in 1962. An officer of the trans- ■ fusion service said yesterday • that the fall in the take of i blood and in the number of i new members enrolled was
an accident of the itinerary of the mobile unit in the two periods.
